The art of the tile
reached its peak in the nineteenth century
when the inventive Victorians perfected
the mass production of tiles in an
astonishing variety of designs. These were
used on the hearths of fireplaces, side
panels of cast-iron firegrates and on the
walls of entrance halls and bathrooms.
Paving tiles were made in many shapes and
colours and used on garden paths,
verandahs and floors of rooms such as
hallways, bathrooms and
kitchens.
Many of these tiles are
available once again from the suppliers
listed here.
